Back the bid

Salford is bidding to host the World Triathlon Championships in 2010. This would be a major coup for the city but there will be stiff opposition from the other bidding cities such as Mazatlan (Mexico), Budapest (Hungary) and Aqaba (Jordan).

We need your support to make this happen. If you want to let us know what you think please add any comments to your email. Click here to Back the Bid.

“I fully support bringing the triathlon World Championships to Salford Quays in 2010. It's an amazing venue and I'd like to see the city recognised as the forward-thinking, world-class, as well as community-spirited place that it really is.”

“Bringing the triathlon World Championships to Salford is a tremendously exciting prospect. As a city close to my heart, Salford is a fine example of sporting success, highlighting the UK's capabilities as an excellent host of world-class sport.”

“It would be so exciting to race a World Championships on home soil! I raced in Salford at the Commonwealth Games and it's an ideal venue that always attracts great crowds. I'm looking forward to the prospect of racing the ITU World Cup event there this summer, but the World Championships would be something really special.”

Elite GB Triathlete and World Biathle Champion 2005
“I've been lucky enough to race at Salford several times and it's a fantastic event for competitors as well as spectators. To bring the World Championships to Salford and Great Britain would be a huge boost for the sport and would certainly be a key milestone in my own preparations for London 2012.”

Goalkeeper for Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club
“I've watched the race over in Salford and the atmosphere from the crowds and supporters was amazing to watch. The Quays is without doubt the world's best location for this event, with the jaw-dropping backdrop of The Lowry and the beautiful bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal. The city is a welcoming place, driven by energetic and motivated people who will lend their full support for this sporting event. It would be fantastic if the triathlon World Championships were held in Salford - bringing this world class sport to the northwest would be a real achievement.”
